Library By Mail

The Malvern-Hot Spring County Library proudly offers its Books by Mail program as a free service for individuals living in the region (Cleveland, Dallas, Grant, Hot Spring, and Saline County) who are unable to leave home or access routine library material due to a temporary or permanent disability.

To qualify, the following application must be signed by a patron's physician, nurse, social worker or a library branch manager who can verify that you are disabled and unable to leave your home. Mail completed forms to:

What is Books by Mail Service?
It is a convenient way for homebound patrons who live in Malvern-Hot Spring County Library area (Cleveland, Dallas, Grant, Hot Spring, and Saline County) to obtain and return large print books and audiobooks on CD by mail at no cost.

Who is eligible for this service?
Any resident of Cleveland, Dallas, Grant, Hot Spring, and Saline County is eligible if they are unable to leave home because of a temporary or permanent disability. A valid library card and a completed application are required to participate.

The application must be signed by a physician, nurse, social worker, or a library branch manager who can verify that you are disabled and unable to leave your home.

I have a surgery or extended hospital stay - am I eligible?
We routinely move patrons to a temporary Books By Mail status. Whether it's a one month or one year stay, you are eligible provided you meet the other guidelines.

Can I temporarily suspend my participation in the program if I'm unavailable?
Call 501-332-5441 or email midark.bookmobile@arkansas.gov to let us know the duration for which you want your service suspended. We will call or email you back before it begins, and call or email you when it's over to see if you need more time.

How does this service work?
You fill out an application, which also asks your reading interests (We need your preferences to select material you'll like). PLEASE NOTE: Only books and audiobooks on CD are available to participants of this program.

When you are finished, mail the materials in the library mailing bag back to the library at no charge.

How long can I keep materials checked out to me?
All materials checked out through the Books by Mail service are due 60 days after the day they are checked out, which provides time for the materials to be delivered and returned through the mail.

How will materials be delivered to me? How should I return them?
The library will mail selections to you through the US Postal Service. Materials will be sent in a deep scarlet canvas bag with a reusable address label you turn around to return the material. When the returned materials are received, the library will mail you another selection.

How much does the Books by Mail Service cost?
This service is free to the qualified patrons of the Mid-Arkansas Regional Library who meet the requirements of the program.
